History

The Milanofiori Nord complex is part of a larger project started over 40 years ago, initially with the construction of the Milanofiori Business District and a Shopping Centre, and later with the multi-functional Arena, today known as Mediolanum Forum, and the Teatro Repower.

The main stages in the development of the Milanofiori area are the following:

Works began on the construction site of the Milanofiori Business Centre in Assago, which ended in the 1980s. 
With over 600,000 square metres built, the Milanofiori Business Centre is still considered one of the largest and most functional office districts in Italy.

The “Forum of Milan”, which is today called Mediolanum Forum, opened. 
With a covered area of over 40,000 square metres, and a central arena with a seating capacity up to 12,700 people, it is the main covered multifunctional venue in the north of Italy and it hosts an average of over 2 million visitors per year during concerts and sporting events. The Mediolanum Forum also provides plenty of sport facilities from fitness activities to ice skating, squash, swimming, bowling and other sports.

Next to the Mediolanum Forum the Teatro Repower was built. 
With a capacity of 1,730 spectators, it is a theater mainly dedicated to musical productions.

Start-up of the building site for the construction of Milanofiori Nord.

With the development of approximately 130,000 square metres, the first phase of intervention in the Milanofiori Nord development area was concluded. It includes the construction of the U4, U7, U9 and U10 buildings, the completion of the U15 building, the retail buildings, the commercial square, a multiplex cinema, a fitness centre, a hotel and the residential complexes “Residenze le Rogge” (“R1”), and “R3”.

In February the Subway line 2 arrives in Assago, with two stations: M2 Milanofiori Nord and M2 Milanofiori Forum. 
In July, Milanofiori 2000 sold or leased approximately 115,000 square metres, equal to 86% of the entire gross floor area built in the Milanofiori Nord area: the retail park was fully leased; the U4, U7, and U9 offices were sold for a total of approximately 33,800 square metres; the U15 building, of about 10,000 square metres, was leased to GroupM.

Approximately 160,000 square metres of the Milanofiori Nord complex were completed.
In January, the U27 building (22,000 square metres for office use) was delivered to Nestlé Italiana.

Completion of the U16 building for the Puma Italia headquarters (approximately 1,800 square metres).

Start of construction of U1 office building (about 31,000 square metres) and U3 (about 11,000 square metres).
